The Geospatial Information Authority of Japan is Japan's only national mapping organization, and its mission is to provide accurate locations and up-to-date maps to the public. For over 150 years since the Meiji era, the authority has been measuring the country's land and depicting its appearance on maps. Its work is based on four pillars: "measurement" to determine location standards; "drawing" to represent the land on maps; "protection" to protect lives from disasters; and "communication" to communicate the land's appearance. Armed with the technical capabilities it has cultivated through its extensive experience and track record, it will create a system that makes advanced use of geospatial information, leading to a more prosperous society.
