Michibiki (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System) is a Japanese satellite positioning system that is primarily composed of satellites in a quasi-zenith orbit (an orbit that stays near the zenith of Japan for a long period of time). A satellite positioning system is a system that calculates location information using radio waves from satellites. The US GPS is well known, and Michibiki is sometimes called the Japanese version of GPS. Using Michibiki's augmentation signals makes highly accurate positioning possible, which is expected to lead to the development of location information businesses that make advanced use of geospatial information.
